The performance of Solid State Drives is increasing every day, as several Flash-memory vendors are introducing their latest additions to the segment. Such is the case with PhotoFast, which has recently updated its product line with the introduction of a new series of G-Monster 2.5-inch SSDs. Designed to provide computer enthusiasts with a high-end storage solution, the fresh drives are said to deliver high read and write speeds, enabling accelerated performance for your laptop or desktop computer system.
The company has rolled out two new models, part of the V5 series, including the G-Monster V5 and the V5J, both of which have been designed in a 2.5-inch form factor and boast one SATA 3.0 interface. According to the vendor, the models will be available in capacities of 32, 64, 128 and 256GB, having a MTBF (mean time between failure) of 2.5 million hours, providing the end-user with a reliable and high-performance storage solution.

The main differences between the two V5 models is that the former has been built using an Indilinx controller and 128MB of cache memory, while the latter has been designed using JMicron's latest controller, featuring 256MB of buffer. These enable the two drives to deliver various performance stats, with the Indilix-based V5 model offering read and write speeds of 270MB/s (32/64GB versions reach 200MB/s when writing), while the JMicron model provides speeds of 240/200MB/s respectively.
If you have already set your eyes on the new SSDs, we should tell you not to get your hopes high as the technical and pricing details are yet to be unveiled. Still, given the market segment, we expect relatively high prices, affordable only to those computer enthusiasts that go all out on performance and overclocking.
